Enzo Fernandez has been one of Chelsea’s best players this season, which has not gone unnoticed.

In 43 appearances, Fernandez has scored seven goals and provided 13 assists, and he has now earned some praise from Enzo Maresca as a result.

It was recently claimed that Fernandez wants to join Real Madrid, but Chelsea will not want to sell the second-most expensive signing in their history, especially after the campaign he has had.

For Maresca, the 24-year-old is only likely to get better at Chelsea if he remains at the club.

Enzo Maresca tips Enzo Fernandez to score more goals for Chelsea next season

This term, Fernandez has been happy with his numbers after a difficult start, but Maresca thinks he can actually improve on them in the 2025/26 campaign.

Speaking about the Argentine in his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s game against Manchester United, Maresca said: “He scores goals but has important numbers with assists. I think next season he can improve his numbers even more.”

Being one of Chelsea’s top performers right now, Fernandez will be expected to start in his side’s crunch tie at Stamford Bridge.

Moises Caicedo is also one of the first names on the teamsheet, but it will be interesting to see where he plays.

In Chelsea’s recent fixtures, Maresca has used Caicedo at right-back. It has allowed Romeo Lavia to come into the team, and the Belgian has not done much wrong bar the mistake he made for Newcastle United’s opening goal last weekend.

Comparing Enzo Fernandez’s 2024/25 and 2023/24 Premier League campaigns

There certainly has been a drastic improvement in Fernandez’s attacking output compared to last season.

In the Premier League, both his goal and assist numbers have been better, while the Argentina international is also completing more key passes per game.

Season Appearances Goals Assists Key passes
2024/25 34 6 7 2.3
2023/24 28 3 2 1.1

Under Maresca, Fernandez has been given more freedom to get forward and into the box, and the World Cup winner has taken his chances when he has arrived there. His goal against Liverpool is an excellent example.

You can see why Real Madrid are starting to sniff around. But with a contract until 2032, Chelsea do not need to panic just yet.
