Chelsea fans were left calling for one young player to be given an opportunity after they were defeated by Flamengo in their second Club World Cup game.

Andrey Santos was expected to feature for the Blues up against the Brazilian opposition, after not featuring at all in their opening win against LAFC.

Enzo Maresca admitted he made a mistake with his squad selection against Flamengo, and this will surely be addressed when they take on ES Tunis in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The games the Blues have played so far have seen some of their weaknesses in attack be exposed, even though it was always going to be harder to come back last time out with 10 men on the pitch.

Enzo Maresca must start Tyrique George in Chelsea’s last Club World Cup group game

Another player who is yet to start in the competition is Tyrique George, despite the relatively limited competition on the wings in their squad right now.

After the loss of Jadon Sancho, only Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto join the Englishman as natural wide options. The Portuguese star has already started both games in the extreme heat.

Maresca must look to add a new dynamic to his attack, and this should see George handed his first start of the summer in the must-win game.

A number of the attacker’s teammates have been full of praise for the youngster since he broke into the first team setup on a regular basis.

Marc Cucurella described George as a ‘top player’ at the end of the campaign, and his crucial goal against Fulham kickstarted the great run that secured a return to Champions League football next season.

Tyrique George’s Chelsea future in trouble

Despite the promise of the youngster, George could be set to face even more competition for his place in the side.

It was expected that Chelsea would add Jamie Gittens to their ranks before the transfer window temporarily closed before the Club World Cup.

Reports have claimed that Gittens only wants to join the Blues this summer, and negotiations are set to continue between both clubs throughout the remainder of the transfer window.

They now face serious competition though. Bayern Munich have entered the fray and are in talks with Dortmund to try and convince him to stay in Germany with his next move.
