Chelsea have made a final attempt to complete a big-name transfer before the start of next week’s Club World Cup in the United States.
The Blues are keen to add to the addition of Liam Delap to the first team squad, with Enzo Maresca’s side taking the post-season competition extremely seriously.
It appears that Mike Maignan has emerged as the number one candidate to add to the squad. The Frenchman has just one year left on his contract at AC Milan and is not expected to sign a new deal.
Chelsea have held direct meetings with Milan over the potential deal, however up until now the two clubs have been fairly far apart in their valuations of the player.
In an attempt to resolve the situation before the squad jet off to America, Chelsea have made another bid for his services, leaving the ball in the Serie A side’s court.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea have submitted a bid to try and get the deal done before the first part of the window closes on Tuesday.
He said: “Chelsea submit bid for Mike Maignan worth €15m as final decision will be up to AC Milan. Chelsea want to get final answer on Maignan negotiations by the end of Club World Cup window on Tuesday.”
Chelsea fans are desperate to sign Maignan, with many not being impressed with the performances of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen throughout last season.

Maignan’s failed Chelsea audition
The ongoing international break gave Maignan a chance to show what he can do to those at Stamford Bridge, with the huge Nations League semi-final tie against Spain.
As fellow transfer target Nico Williams shone, the France international did not enjoy his best performance, conceding five goals in an insane 5-4 defeat.
If Chelsea are to sign a new goalkeeper, they will be hoping they immediately raise the levels of the first team squad, especially if they are going to break their own rule and sign a player above the age of 25.
The Blues will be hoping it was just an off day, however may now have a bit more doubt over the potential signing.
