A new name has appeared near the top of the list as far as Chelsea’s transfer targets go for a new attacker during this summer transfer window.

Joao Pedro is being strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, after it has become clear that he is free to leave Brighton this summer.

Pedro is open to a move to Chelsea, however the Blues will be well aware of what it takes to sign a player from Brighton.

The Blues paid a Premier League record fee at the time for Moises Caicedo, and also broke the bank to bring in Marc Cucurella. Both are now up there for the most important Blues players.

Three reasons Chelsea think Joao Pedro is the ‘perfect’ signing

While Chelsea are still a long way away from completing the deal, the club have seemingly already done plenty of work into whether he would be a suitable addition.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea actually have three major reasons as to why they are convinced he is the perfect candidate to sign this summer, including his versatility in attack.

He said: “Joao Pedro is VERY highly rated by Chelsea. Big potential, knows the league and covers multiple positions, Chelsea believe he could be perfect addition to the squad but there’s no negotiations so far. Meanwhile, Newcastle are already working club-to-club for him.”

While Chelsea are keen on Pedro, they also have a number of other attackers on their list in an attempt to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s side ahead of the new season.

Chelsea’s attacking transfer targets

It has become clear that a winger is a priority for the Blues. Maresca admitted Chelsea were looking for a new wide man this summer.

Jamie Gittens was nearly brought in before the first transfer window closed before the Club World Cup, and he remains very admired by the Blues now.

Alejandro Garnacho remains a target, while the club are also keen on Lyon star Malick Fofana, with them keeping their options open.

Pedro’s ability to play in multiple positions is surely going to be a real selling point for the Blues. He could also deputise in the striker role should Nicolas Jackson decide to leave this summer.
