Chelsea are set to be busy in the summer transfer window no matter if they qualify for the Champions League or not.

The Blues are 90 minutes away from returning to Europe’s elite, however need to beat fellow contenders Nottingham Forest away from home to confirm their status.

It has been claimed that Chelsea want four positions to be addressed in the upcoming window, with one of those being a right-footed player who can play on the left of attack.

Noni Madueke has been performing well in that position of late, however links to the likes of Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho refuse to go away.

Frank Lampard a huge fan of Chelsea’s latest transfer target

Recent reports though have claimed they are now interested in Anthony Gordon at Newcastle United, a player they came close to signing back in 2022.

At the time, club legend Frank Lampard was in charge of Everton, where he was just breaking through as a young winger.

Despite obviously not wanting to lose his player, Lampard’s comments surrounding the player made it clear that he knew the talents of the individual who has only gone on to get better.

He said to The Independent: “It is absolutely not happening at this point and that is where we are at. The situation we are in [now is] Anthony is not leaving this club. There absolutely has to come a time where we have to understand what the squad is going to be and especially a player of the level of Anthony, I have to know he is going be here. We are at that situation. We have drawn a red line.”

“He is a very good lad. He appreciates what this club has done for him and he loves the club and I know from the conversations I have had with him that that will not be anything but this has to be a positive for Anthony.”

“This has to be a positive for Anthony. My feeling is Anthony is going to be a top, top player for club and country and these are all experiences he is going to gather over his career so what he will have to do is just take those experiences and get a bit better for them.”

Anthony Gordon vs Chelsea’s current wingers

Many Chelsea supporters have hoped for more output from their wingers, and their stats do not quite match the feats of Gordon. This is even after a much quieter season from the England international than his prior campaign.

24/25 PL stats Goals Assists
Anthony Gordon 6 6
Noni Madueke 7 3
Pedro Neto 4 5
Jadon Sancho 3 4

It is likely that Gordon is going to set them back a major transfer fee, with it being reported by The i Paper that he would cost around £80m.

However, he would bring a far safer and more effective immediate solution to their attacking woes than taking a risk on a player like Gittens or Garnacho.
