While Chelsea fans prepare for Liam Delap’s imminent arrival at the football club, Ipswich Town supporters are coming to terms with losing their best player this summer.
Liam Delap couldn’t keep Ipswich in the Premier League this season despite scoring 12 goals, so it’s no surprise that he’s on the verge of leaving Portman Road.
It’s been reported that Delap will undergo a Chelsea medical on Monday ahead of a £30m switch to Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old was previously linked with other clubs before choosing to join the Blues, though.
Earlier in May, Delap was keen on joining Manchester United, but they ultimately missed out on him and Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest wanted to sign Delap as they look to improve their squad ahead of next season’s run in the Conference League.

Ipswich supporters on social media are in total agreement that Delap has made the right decision to join Chelsea this summer.

“It makes more sense to go to Chelsea than going to Manchester United,” another said.

In a similar way, Chelsea fans are positive about the Delap signing, especially because they can’t wait to see him reunite with Blues star Cole Palmer. It will be interesting to see how the former Manchester City academy stars connect at Stamford Bridge next season.
Kieran McKenna’s bold statement about Liam Delap should excite Chelsea
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has worked closely with Delap for the last nine months at Ipswich, and he’s clearly a huge admirer of his.
Interestingly, he recently claimed that the Chelsea-bound striker has the skills to be as good as anyone in the world in his position.
When discussing Delap earlier in May, McKenna told BBC Sport: “In terms of attributes I think he’s as good as what there is out there anywhere in the world and he has honed and developed them well this year and we hope he continues to do so.”
Even though Delap comes to Chelsea still a bit raw, the supporters should get behind him because his potential is enormous. In a few years, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Blues are looking back at a £30m signing as a steal.
