The upcoming transfer window is going to be crucial for Chelsea in order to keep fans on board with the project being undertaken by the owners.
More than one billion pounds has been spent on players since Todd Boehly took over the reins at the top. However there are still a few clear areas that need strengthening.
The big area which supporters are concerned about is the striker role. Nicolas Jackson is the only recognised first team option in that position.
It has been reported a striker is one of four positions Chelsea are prioritising this summer, with them likely to be looking to move on a number of first team stars too.
One name who has frequently been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge is Victor Osimhen. The Blues came close to signing Osimhen last summer, before they walked away on deadline day.
John Obi Mikel says it will be a ‘disaster’ if Chelsea don’t sign Victor Osimhen
John Obi Mikel has been a big advocate for Chelsea bringing in his countryman, and has now said on ‘The Obi One Podcast’ that he believes it would be a ‘disaster’ if he doesn’t end up playing for the Blues.
He said: “The best finisher in the world. I don’t see any better. With his numbers, this season, he’s been on fire. Unplayable sometimes. Scoring goals, creating chances, everything he does.
“I’ve always said, this is a player who wins you trophies. He will get you goals. He’s a player we have to get. It will be a disaster, after everything that we’ve been through with him, to see him wearing another shirt, in my opinion will be a disaster.
“He’s tailormade for us. How many times am I going to say this? He bleeds blue. If the club decides to go somewhere else, fair play.”
Chelsea’s other striker targets
While the Blues remain linked to Osimhen, there are a number of other strikers who the club are big fans of and could move for instead.
Chelsea are high on Liam Delap, with Enzo Maresca having experience working with the player during their time at Manchester City.
Manchester United are reportedly keen on a deal as well, and could be able to guarantee Champions League football if they win against Tottenham in the Europa League final.
The likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Emanuel Emegha remain on the shortlist too, with the European competition they can offer next season perhaps playing a part in who they can attract.
