Chelsea supporters may be a bit more excited for the summer transfer window knowing they can tempt individuals to Stamford Bridge with the offer of Champions League football next season.
The Blues secured fourth position on the final day of the Premier League campaign to seal a return to the Champions League.
Now, the players will look to round off a positive year by beating Real Betis on Wednesday night in the Conference League final.
It’s been reported that Chelsea are targeting four key signings this summer to improve the current squad. With a few smart additions, Enzo Maresca’s group could be in a really healthy spot going into next season.
John Terry wants Chelsea to sign an experienced striker
John Terry, the Chelsea legend, has urged the Blues to go out and sign a proven centre-forward with a track record of scoring goals in the Premier League.
He thinks Chelsea can take the “next step” by adding an experienced No 9, but he doubts the ownership will abandon their strategy of focusing on young talents in the transfer market.
Terry told talkSPORT: “I think if you’re looking to go to that next step, you need to bring in someone who’s proven, who’s done it, who’s scored goals in the Premier League. That tends to be an experienced player. The owners are quite clear they’re not going to go down that route. They don’t want to bring someone of 29 or 30 years of age in on big money. It’s going to be a different model and a different mindset. So, I don’t think we’ll go down that route. I personally feel we do need [an experienced striker].”
It will be intriguing to see how quickly the Blues operate in the upcoming transfer window to bring new faces into the club.
Apparently, Chelsea would like new signings before the Club World Cup, which is a summer tournament that kicks off in mid-June.
Incidentally, John Terry is a huge supporter of the Club World Cup and is excited about the Blues’ involvement in the expanded 32-team competition.
Victor Osimhen would be the perfect compromise
Victor Osimhen would be the ideal signing for Chelsea this summer, someone who has plenty of experience of scoring goals under his belt but whose best years may be ahead of him.
At the age of 26, the central striker already has a very eye-catching CV.
Club | Appearances | Goals |
Napoli | 133 | 76 |
Galatasaray | 40 | 36 |
Lille | 38 | 18 |
Charleroi | 36 | 20 |
Wolfsburg | 16 | 0 |
The Napoli-owned forward, who’s enjoyed a stellar loan spell at Galatasaray this season, is strongly linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge. It’s been claimed that Chelsea want to sign Victor Osimhen this summer, but they need to find a compromise over the player’s wages.
If the Blues sign someone with Osimhen’s profile, we do believe it will help close the gap to Europe’s best teams next season.
