Chelsea are pushing hard to get business done early in this transfer window in order to have the best squad possible to compete for glory in the Club World Cup.

The big signing already announced is the addition of Liam Delap, with the new striker taking on the curse of the number nine shirt at Stamford Bridge.

The youngster has pulled out of international duty over the summer with the England U21s in order to try and win his first trophy as a Chelsea player in the United States.

It will be the first time the competition takes place in its new format, with Chelsea adding to their trophy cabinet when taking part in the old style back in 2022.

A decade earlier, the Blues were left embarrassed after being defeated by Corinthians after entering the competition following the 2012 Champions League triumph.

They lost 1-0 in the final, however missed a heap of chances against the Brazilian side. Fernando Torres was unfortunately responsible for a number of these.

The Spaniard was desperately trying to get his Chelsea career up and running following his £50m move from Liverpool, however struggled over in Japan to put an end to his goalscoring woes.

Drogba had tipped Torres to be the next great striker at Stamford Bridge following his departure, however this certainly didn’t come off throughout his time in West London.

What is Fernando Torres up to now?

After his time at Chelsea, the Spaniard would move to AC Milan and return for a spell at Atletico Madrid, before finishing his career in Japan.

Since then, Torres has taken to coaching, becoming the manager of Atletico’s Under 19 side after coming through the club’s academy himself.

He has worked his way up through the age groups, and is now in charge of the club’s ‘B side’, who currently play in the third tier of Spanish football.

Torres will no doubt be looking for inspiration from former national team colleague Cesc Fabregas, who is currently making a great name for himself in charge of Como in Italy.
