Newly promoted Premier League side Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old forward joins from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, where he spent the last four years.

During his second stint at Wolfsburg, he scored 19 goals in 85 appearances.

Nmecha began his career at Manchester City, graduating from their academy.

He now returns to England after four years, this time with the Yorkshire-based side.

Speaking to Leeds TV following the move, Nmecha said:
“I’m really excited and happy. I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve got some people who have been here, like Josh, who I played with. He told me about the atmosphere, the fans, and obviously I’ve played against Leeds in the Championship. It’s a massive club and an exciting challenge. I can’t wait to play in the Premier League with the team and do well. I trust Josh — he’s probably one of the nicest guys in football that I know. He said it’s a massive club and if I get the opportunity, I should definitely do it. He said the fans are crazy and the boys are good as well, so he gave a really good first impression.”

Nmecha has signed a two-year contract with the club.

Born Lukas Okechukwu Nmecha, he is of Nigerian and German descent, and moved to England at a young age.

After representing England at youth level, he switched allegiance to Germany.

Though he was eligible to represent Nigeria, the Super Eagles were never a priority for him.

His international career with Germany has yet to flourish, with only seven senior caps to his name and no major tournament appearances for the national team.
