Super Falcons interim head coach, Justin Madugu has revealed that the upcoming international friendlies against Cameroon will serve as a ground for player evaluation and tactical fine-tuning ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking exclusively to Brila.net following the release of his squad list, Madugu revealed the dual purpose of the friendlies: ‘solidifying team chemistry and identifying both strengths and weaknesses within the squad.’
“You always crave for such opportunities and hoping that with more games like that you hope to assess your team and then see how far you have gone, areas that you need to see work on.”
“Areas of your strength and areas of your weaknesses and then to also assess the players and see who really fits into what you really want so that as you continue to prepare, get closer to the competition, you try and get those information to help you get a team that you feel can really make the country proud.”
Madugu added that the matches will also help the coaching staff determine which players fit into the team’s long-term plans as the countdown to WAFCON continues.
The NFF released a 23-player squad list on Tuesday ahead of the double-header friendly at the end of the month.
