Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has gained recognition for his excellent performances this season.
Caicedo has picked up two accolades at Chelsea, the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season awards.
He has also been nominated for the Premier League Fan Team of the Season alongside a couple of his Chelsea teammates.
Some Blues supporters, though, may feel that another one of their players should have been shortlisted as well.
Enzo Fernandez does not make shortlist
Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella have all made the shortlist for the Premier League Fan Team of the Season.
However, there was no room for Enzo Fernandez despite how well he has played in the current campaign.
Fernandez has been one of Chelsea’s best players, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 35 top-flight games. It is a return that the midfielder is satisfied with.
Fernandez recently spoke about his campaign and said: “I’m so happy with my numbers. Being a box-to-box midfielder, it’s a really good number of goals and assists.”
The 24-year-old has not done enough, though, to join Caicedo, Palmer and Cucurella on the Team of the Season shortlist.
While it would have been nice for him, the only thing Fernandez will be thinking about is finishing in the top five and winning the Conference League.
Do that, and this season will go down as a successful one for the World Cup winner and his Chelsea teammates.
What Enzo Maresca has said about Enzo Fernandez’s season
Fernandez at least has the approval of his manager, who is happy with how the Argentina international has done this term.
Speaking about Fernandez after one game back in February, Enzo Maresca told Chelsea’s official website and others: “He behaved as a leader and he is doing top, fantastic. For sure Enzo has taken a step forward in that sense.
“He is showing how good a leader he is, how good he is on the ball, how good he is off the ball and we are delighted with him.”
Still, Fernandez can feel hard done by after not even making the list of nominees for the Premier League Fan Team of the Season.
And after the performances that he has put in, if Caicedo does not make the final cut, the Ecuadorian should also feel the same way. He has been one of the best midfielders in the division so deserves a spot in the team.
