Peter Crouch is going to be very unhappy with one thing that is set to take place in Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Arne Slot’s side have nothing to play for after being crowned Premier League champions last weekend, but it is a huge game for Enzo Maresca‘s men.
Chelsea are still fighting for a Champions League spot with four matches to go, which is why they need a positive result against Liverpool.
May could be a brilliant month for Maresca, with the Blues also having a great chance of winning the Conference League. But right now, their focus will be on trying to beat the Reds.
Peter Crouch not a fan of guard of honour
Maresca has confirmed that Chelsea will give Liverpool a guard of honour at Stamford Bridge following their title success.
However, it is a tradition that Crouch is not a fan of, with the former striker claiming that it will be “embarrassing” for not only Chelsea but also Liverpool.
Discussing it on TNT Sports, he said: “I don’t like it. Maybe it shows respect but I just don’t get it. It’s embarrassing for the team that comes out and it’s entirely embarrassing for the team that claps them on the field. It’s not for me.”
Maresca deciding that his Chelsea players will applaud their opponents on Sunday afternoon means they will be getting some pay back against their Premier League rivals.
Back in 2015, Liverpool gave Chelsea a guard of honour after the Blues were crowned champions of the English top flight.
While Crouch may be against it, some Liverpool fans are going to enjoy watching Chelsea recognise their success, especially after their team had to 10 years ago.
If Maresca’s side can earn all three points on the day, though, then the home supporters will probably not care too much.
Peter Crouch makes big Robert Sanchez claim
Crouch has also spoken about Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez recently, making quite a controversial claim about the 27-year-old.
Despite the series of mistakes that Sanchez has made this season, Crouch still thinks that the Spaniard is good enough to be Chelsea’s first-choice shot-stopper.
When Crouch spoke about Sanchez last month, the ex-Liverpool forward said: “He’s definitely got the ability to be the No.1 goalkeeper here, it’s just about the confidence. He got man of the match today [against Everton], and the fans have acknowledged the fact that he’s made some mistakes, but today he’s won them three points.
If Maresca wants to head in another direction, though, he has Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders to choose from.
