Chelsea star Cole Palmer has shown some inconsistency this season, but the 23-year-old has still had a good campaign overall.

In the Premier League, Palmer has scored 15 goals and provided eight assists to help his side fight for a place in the top five.

As a result, the Englishman has been nominated for the division’s Young Player of the Season award.

Chelsea target Liam Delap is also in the running for the accolade, but it is another player on the Blues’ shortlist who should win the award, according to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.

Rio Ferdinand thinks Morgan Rogers should win Young Player of the Season award

As well as Delap, Chelsea are also hoping to sign Morgan Rogers, who has shone at Aston Villa this season.

The attacking midfielder has come up with 18 goal contributions in 36 Premier League games for Villa, and Ferdinand now thinks he should be rewarded for that.

Discussing who should win the Young Player of the Season award on his YouTube channel, the former United and England defender said: “Morgan Rogers for me. I think last season the one thing I was saying… up to the final execution of his final pass for an assist or a goal was the little bit I was going, ‘Let’s unlock that’. This season, his numbers have improved.”

While Chelsea are keen on Rogers, understandably, Villa are reluctant to sell the ex-Middlesbrough star this summer.

It has been reported that Villa plan to keep hold of Rogers, so Chelsea may have to look elsewhere in their bid to strengthen their attack.

Joe Shields pushing for Morgan Rogers

It is Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields who wants to bring Rogers to Stamford Bridge.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Shields is keen on Rogers, who certainly has been improving since arriving at Villa.

The England international has scored more goals and provided more assists this term compared to last season, but that is to be expected given that he has played more games. His averages per match have also increased significantly, though.

If Rogers were to win the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award, it would not be undeserved. He has had a bright campaign, catching Chelsea’s attention in the process.
