Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajayi will be parting ways with West Brom at the end of June, as his contract is set to expire following the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season.
West Brom confirmed Ajayi’s departure in their official retained and released list, which includes a number of first-team players.
Following six years at The Hawthorns, Ajayi’s time with the Baggies comes to an end, closing a chapter that included both highs and injury struggles.
Ajayi joined West Brom in 2019 from Rotherham United and quickly established himself as a key figure in the heart of the defence.
He played an important role in helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season.
Notably, he scored his first Premier League goal against Liverpool at Anfield during the 2020/21 campaign.
In total, Ajayi made 177 appearances for West Brom in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists, however, his final season at the club was plagued by injuries.
He suffered a hamstring issue in October which sidelined him for several months, and just when he appeared ready to return, he suffered another setback.
As a result, the 31-year-old missed 29 Championship games and made only a single 37-minute appearance in the second half of the season.
West Brom expressed their gratitude in an official statement:
“Defender Semi Ajayi will be leaving the club at the end of June. Internationals Ajayi and Diangana joined in the summer of 2019 and played instrumental roles in helping the Baggies achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League in their maiden terms at The Hawthorns.”
Ajayi now enters free agency, with his next move yet to be confirmed.
