Nicolas Jackson must be on red alert right now as Chelsea transfer speculation points towards the club signing competition for him in the striker position.

As the 2024/25 season reaches its final stages, the Blues are tipped with potential signings for the summer window. In particular, Chelsea want to bring in a new centre-forward to the squad, so several different attackers are linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson, 23, has been the first-choice striker at Chelsea for two seasons now, but most fans will agree that he needs some extra help at the top end of the pitch.

In terms of possible signings in attack, Chelsea are showing interest in Brighton’s Joao Pedro ahead of the summer, along with Liverpool and Arsenal. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward definitely fits the Blues model as a young profile with massive potential.

Apparently, Brighton will allow Joao Pedro to leave at the end of the season if his €70m (£59m) asking price is met.

Chelsea fans argue Nicolas Jackson is better than Joao Pedro

A selection of Chelsea fans on social media have offered a very interesting response to the latest transfer speculation.

According to many Blues supporters, Brighton’s Pedro wouldn’t actually be an upgrade on Jackson to lead the line.

One fan wrote: “I rate him as a player but Nicolas Jackson is a better striker. Joao Pedro is more of a Christopher Nkunku type of player.”

“Please Joao Pedro isn’t that different from Nicolas Jackson,” another commented.

One supporter posted: “Are we going forward or backwards? How is Joao Pedro an upgrade from Jackson?”

“How can we even consider Pedro, he’s not better than Jackson and he is not good enough to begin with,” another said.

If Chelsea are ready to splash the cash on a new No 9, it would be great to find a prolific goalscorer to help ease the burden off Jackson. Perhaps he won’t be willing to lose his starting position quite so easily, though.

Joe Cole thinks Chelsea are better with Nicolas Jackson in their team because of his overall contribution.

It’s a real blow that he’s not available for the final day of the Premier League against Nottingham Forest because of his red card against Newcastle United earlier in May.

Nicolas Jackson vs Joao Pedro

When you look at their records in recent times, there isn’t too much to split Jackson and Pedro.

They are both centre-forwards who can link up play superbly well and have great technical ability, but strikers are so often judged on their attacking output.

Player Club Seasons Appearances Goals Assists
Nicolas Jackson Chelsea 2023/24/ + 2024/25 77 29 11
Joao Pedro Brighton 2023/24/ + 2024/25 70 30 10

As seen above, sections of the Chelsea fanbase view Jackson as a better option than Pedro right now. We tend to agree with them, too.

If the Blues want to make a statement in the transfer window and sign an obvious upgrade in attack, Victor Osimhen would be an outstanding option to pursue at all costs. Chelsea are discussing signing Victor Osimhen, who’s scored 36 goals in 40 games for Galatasaray this season, but the main obstacle is his wages.
