Super Falcons midfielder, Christy Ucheibe has laid down the gauntlet ahead of Nigeria’s opening game at the WAFCON against Tunisia on July 6.

Nigeria, 9 times champion, will also face Botswana and Algeria in group B, and the team has been in camp for nearly month.

Led by interim coach, Justin Madugu, the Super Falcons beat their Cameroonian counterparts 2-0 in an international friendly.

The team will proceed to Portugal for the final phase of camping ahead of the tournament, and are expected to play a final tune up game.

Looking ahead of the Continental showpiece, Christy Ucheibe described the feeling among the players and their expectations.

‘We are very confident at this point and from our recent game, I can say we are sharp and ready to go again,’ the midfielder stated.

Ucheibe will be making her second appearance at the tournament – she missed out on a podium spot in 2023 – and believes this time Nigeria will do better.

‘Our main goal now is to reach peak competitive levels and we are working hard towards it. Eventually, when you play in this tournament and given Nigeria’s pedigree, you know the main objective is to go and win it.’

Hostilities begin for the record champions on July 6 at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca against Tunisia.
