Even though Geovany Quenda won’t become a Chelsea player until 2026, Blues supporters may already be thinking about how he can fit into the plans at Stamford Bridge.

The widespread transfer speculation this week is that Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda, 17, will become a Chelsea player. Incidentally, there’s been no confirmation from the clubs yet.

It’s been claimed that Quenda has completed a Chelsea medical and he’ll spend next season with Sporting before joining up with the Blues in 2026.

Apparently, Enzo Maresca’s role in the Quenda signing was significant because he approved of the transfer.

Chelsea expected to use Geovany Quenda on the left wing

According to The Athletic, Chelsea worked on the deal to sign Quenda from Sporting for months and they eventually won the race for his signature.

Apparently, the Blues only want to use the 17-year-old on the wings. In fact, it’s ‘more likely’ that the Portuguese teenager plays on the left wing when he joins the squad in 2026, partly because of Estevao Willian.

The report adds that Chelsea deem Quenda to be among the top three under-23s wingers in the world right now.

In the 2024/25 season, Quenda has played a variety of different positions. He’s operated in both attacking wide roles for Sporting, plus as a wing-back. It’s clear that Chelsea want to use the left-footed speedster higher up the pitch in the frontline.

Even though Blues co-owner Todd Boehly wants a squad with youth and experience, it’s clear that they’re still focusing on young stars for the future.

Chelsea building for the future

It’s quite telling Quenda, Estevao and Kendry Paez are all aged 17.

We’ll only know in the years to come if Chelsea’s transfer policy works out, but it’s certainly going to be interesting for supporters to watch.

Estevao officially becomes a Blues player this summer after building a name for himself in Brazil with Palmeiras. Chelsea can’t wait for Estevao’s arrival, especially to see him play alongside Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo.

Meanwhile, Paez is training at Cobham right now ahead of his move to Chelsea this summer as well.
