Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has seen his long-term future at the club come into doubt this season.
At one point during the campaign, it was claimed that a civil war had broken out in Chelsea’s boardroom between Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
As a result, talk had emerged about one party potentially buying the other out and taking full control of the club.
Months later, and Boehly has spoken about the dynamics in Chelsea‘s boardroom during an interview.
Todd Boehly claims he has ‘good relationship’ with other Chelsea owners despite rumours
While there have been rumours about Boehly potentially taking a backseat or even selling his shares in Chelsea, the American has claimed that he still has a “good relationship” with the club’s other owners.
In an interview that has been shared by Bloomberg, Boehly said: “We have a good partnership. Like every partnership, you have times that you have to work through and times that are better. We hit the ground running in such an intense timeline that it was a complex moment. We’re through it and we’re excited about what the future holds.
“We think we have one of the best young teams. We were early on doing seven, eight, nine year contracts because we really wanted to make sure that we could keep the team together for a long time. In order to have a really good team you need stability within the team, environment. The only way that comes is through time. We set it up to be able to benefit from that.”
It was thought that Boehly’s relationship with Behdad Eghbali was deteriorating, but the former has now rebuked that.
It is a massive week for Boehly and Chelsea, with the Blues needing to beat Nottingham Forest on Sunday to qualify for the Champions League.
After that game, they take on Real Betis in the Conference League final. It could see Chelsea win their first piece of silverware under Boehly and Clearlake.
Todd Boehly makes striker joke
After the Conference League final, Chelsea will be able to focus on signing players to improve their squad.
The arrival of a new striker is likely, with a host of names being linked to Stamford Bridge. For example, Chelsea are eyeing Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
Boehly, however, has joked that he could play up front when asked if he wants an increased role at the club.
In the same interview shared by Bloomberg, he said: “My role? I think chairman’s a pretty good one. I can’t play, or maybe I’ll go as a striker and see how the fans think about that.”
While watching Boehly leading the line for Enzo Maresca‘s side would be a fascinating watch, Chelsea fans are dreaming of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres right now, strikers who could propel the club to the next level.
