Following the U-20 FIFA World Cup draw which placed Nigeria in Group F alongside Norway, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia, midfielder Divine Oliseh has expressed confidence in the team’s chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
In a chat with Brila.net, Oliseh acknowledged the high level of competition expected at the World Cup but remains optimistic about Nigeria’s ability to advance.
“We are very positive, we are very sure that we can make it out of the group. We are very sure of that.”
“And one thing is sure, we should all remember that no country is a small country.”
He further stated that the World Cup is a far more demanding tournament than the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON), noting that every team will field their best players.
“This is the World Cup and everybody is coming with their best of the best. So we too are also preparing towards the World Cup.”
Oliseh, who was part of the squad that helped Nigeria qualify for the global tournament, believes that with the right preparation and mindset, the Aliyu Zubairu-led team can perform well in Chile.
“And we are confident that we are going to make it through, because we have what it takes to qualify from the group.”
“So it’s all about us preparing very well and trying to put in a good fight. And God help us throughout the tournament.”
The 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup is scheduled to kick off in Chile in November, with Nigeria aiming to improve on their quarter-final finish at the last edition.
