Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen continued his incredible scoring run with a brace in Galatasaray’s 4–1 thrashing of Sivasspor.

Osimhen took his tally to 33 goals this season, his personal best in a single campaign.

The Nigerian forward had previously set his record during the 2022–23 season, when he netted 31 goals in 39 games for Napoli.

Now, with just a few matches left in the Turkish Süper Lig season, Osimhen is just one goal away from equaling Mario Jardel’s long-standing club record of 34 goals, set in the 2000–01 season.

His brace against Sivasspor also saw him surpass the single-season tallies of Mauro Icardi and Bafétimbi Gomis, who each scored 32 goals in a campaign for Galatasaray.

Osimhen has been a revelation since joining the Turkish giants. His pace, strength, and clinical finishing have made him a fan favourite at Rams Park and a constant threat for defenders across the league.

In Saturday’s clash, Galatasaray took an early lead in the 9th minute after Lucas Torreira capitalised on a rebound from Osimhen’s shot.

Osimhen then got on the scoresheet himself in the 15th minute, reacting quickest to a loose ball after it crashed off the bar.

Baris Alper Yilmaz made it 3-0 just six minutes later, before Osimhen struck again in the 31st minute with another confident finish.

Sivasspor’s Rey Manaj pulled one back before halftime, but it proved only a consolation.

Osimhen thought he had completed his hat-trick early in the second half, only for VAR to rule it out for offside. He was eventually substituted in the 70th minute with the game well in hand.

With 33 goals, Osimhen is now on the verge of becoming Galatasaray’s all-time top foreign scorer in a single season, as well as the highest-scoring foreigner in Süper Lig history for a single campaign.

His sensational form continues to underline his status as one of Africa’s elite forwards.
