Chelsea look as if they are going to part ways with goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic this summer despite his impressive campaign on loan away from the club.

Petrovic was not looking forward to leaving Strasbourg when his season came to an end, and his brilliant performances when given the gloves for an entire season backs that up.

Petrovic made the Ligue 1 Team of the Season alongside fellow Chelsea man Andrey Santos, with the Brazilian set to feature for the Blues at the upcoming Club World Cup.

The Serbia international has not been selected in the squad though, opening up speculation that he is likely to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.

Enzo Maresca doesn’t think Djordje Petrovic is good enough with his feet for Chelsea

Maresca clearly wants to build in a different direction, and according to Simon Phillips, it is to do with the 25-year-old’s ability to play with the ball at his feet.

He said on his Substack: “The club and Enzo Maresca do not believe he is good enough with his feet to be Chelsea number one, that’s it. And for that reason, he’s up for sale.

“And on Petrovic’s side, he is 25-years-old now and will turn 26 early in the winter. He does not want to play second fiddle and he knows if he stays at Chelsea then there is no guarantee that he will be a regular starter. So he also wants to leave the club if he cannot be guaranteed this.”

Petrovic’s potential next club

Chelsea fans would likely not be too keen to see the goalkeeper line up against them next season, due to him establishing himself as a top shot stopper.

This could occur though, with Leeds, West Ham and Bournemouth all interested in Petrovic as their new goalkeeper.

He could be more likely though to move away. Galatasaray are in negotiations with Chelsea over the potential signing of the Serbian, with them looking to build on their title-winning campaign in Turkey.

The future of the Chelsea goalkeeper position is extremely unclear right now, with Robert Sanchez being told he can leave the club too despite his strong end to the campaign.
