Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Makurdi Zonal Directorate arrested a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, along with 14 other members, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, for alleged money laundering.
The other members arrested include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, and Agbalak Ibrahim. The remaining members are Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.
The arrests were made following complaints from concerned citizens regarding the former legislators’ alleged violations of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, as well as abuse of procurement processes.
Investigations revealed that the former legislators served only six months in office but were provided with several luxury vehicles by the state government for official use. These vehicles are valued at approximately N2.5 billion. Upon leaving office, the vehicles should have been returned to the state government, but the legislators retained them, and all attempts to retrieve them have been unsuccessful.
As a result, the state government had to procure a new set of vehicles for the current members of the House of Assembly, valued at about N2 billion.
The former Speaker and the other members will soon be charged in court.
