A huge explosion has blown out the side of a residential building in Sydney’s inner west early with one person pulled from the rubble and many more feared trapped – with multiple people unaccounted for.

Shortly after 6.30am on Friday, the unit block on on Clarence Street in Lidcombe was rocked by a loud blast as the entire wall of an apartment was destroyed.

Firefighters, paramedics, and police rushed to the scene to find part of the building partially collapsed sending debris flying into the street below, hitting vehicles below.

NSW Ambulance confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that two people have been taken to hospital.

A man in his 40s was transported to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition with burns to his hands and face.

Another man, in his 60s, was taken to Auburn Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. 

Specialist rescue crews remain on site in a desperate effort to locate and free those still unaccounted for.
