A father and his teenage daughter have lost their lives in a motor accident that occurred along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, near Amibo Ubakala in Abia State.
The accident which occurred on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at about 12:00 noon involved a green Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number UWN 314AR and a red Mack truck bearing registration number PHC 971ZT.
Eyewitnesses say the Highlander, which was conveying a family of six from the Abia Tower axis en route to Aba, crashed into the rear of a long trailer loaded with iron scraps.
The driver of the Highlander, identified as 60-year-old Chidi Innocent from Enugu State, and his 18-year-old daughter, Miss Onyinyechi Innocent, d!ed on the spot.
Their remains have been deposited at Godspeed Mortuary, Mgbarakuma Ubakala.
Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were promptly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, for treatment.
Meanwhile, their mother was reportedly trapped under the truck for some time before being rescued.
The truck driver, 33-year-old Gideon Effiong Udofia from Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
Authorities say preliminary investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
