The media is buzzing with news of the grand 80th anniversary celebration of Wema Bank, Nigeria’s oldest indigenous, innovative bank and pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT.

 

Founded on May 2nd 1945, Wema Bank’s rise to becoming the Bank for all generations has indeed been an admirable journey, marked by immense impact, remarkable resilience and a repertoire of innovative solutions that continue to redefine banking and financial services for all. The Bank’s 80th anniversary celebration took place on Friday, May 2nd 2025, rounding off the 80-days to 80 countdown with a grand gala night.

 

The Wema at 80 Gala night was lit with heartfelt goodwill messages from Top Government officials, commendation from industry experts and show-stopping performances by A-list music stars.

 

Davido wowed guests with chart-topping hits like “Unavailable”, “Feel” and “With You”; Wande Coal captivated the audience with his smooth Afrobeat vocals; 9ice brought a cultural flair with his ethnic classics; Yinka Davies delivered a soulful and elegant set; Star Singer-Songwriter, Cobhams Asuquo delivered an electrifying performance; and Sir Shina Ayuba had the audience relive the 1900s with a vibrant Fuji session that had guests in high spirits.

 

Other guest appearances included Nigerian-Hungarian producer, DJ Sose; Guinness World Record holder and dancer, Kaffy; Reality TV Stars, Teddy A and Seyi Awolowo; Nollywood sensations Deyemi Okanlawon, Stan Nze and Juliana Olayode; Contemporary Saxophonist, Shola Sax; Media Presenter, JayOnAir; Spoken Word Artist, IB Quakeand Content Creator, Folagade Banks; among others.

 

Rounding off the list of celebrities were Co-Hosts Olive Emodi and Femi Branch.
