Former President of Zambia, Edgar Lungu is de@d. 

Lungu d!ed at the age of 68, his party, the Patriotic Front, announced via a statement on Thursday, June 5. 

The party said the former president d!ed while “receiving specialized treatment in South Africa for an undisclosed illness”. 

Lungu led Zambia for six years, from 2015 until 2021, when he lost the presidential election to the current President, Hakainde Hichilema. 

After losing the election, Lungu stepped back from politics but later returned to pursue his presidential ambition. 

In a short video, Lungu’s daughter, Tasila said the former president who had been “under medical supervision in recent weeks” d!ed at a clinic in South Africa’s capital, Pretoria, at 06:00 am on Thursday. 

“In this moment of grief, we invoke the spirit of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ – the timeless creed that guided President Lungu’s service to our country,” she added.
