Justin Trudeau’s 17 year-old rapper son says it was ‘unfulfilling’ to live in a taxpayer-funded mansion, have bodyguards and meet countless A-List stars.
Xavier Trudeau has embarked on a journey to become an R&B artist and spoken about his famous father to promote his music – while insisting he’s not a nepo baby.
Days after releasing his third single, titled Back Me Up, the teen hopped in a car with food review influencer G Hobs to discuss his childhood growing up as the prime minister’s eldest son.
Although he admitted there were perks: security (which he still has), living in Rideau Cottage with his two siblings and his mother, and meeting ‘any A-list celebrity you can think of,’ it wasn’t everything to the teen, he told Hobs in a video posted to both of their accounts.
‘It’s not [normal], but you know what it is, it’s different,’ he told the influencer.
‘It was always a good feeling until I got a little older. This is part of why I’m actually starting to do this stuff, because it always felt super good to be in these places, security around me, private escort, it was always a sick feeling.
‘But inside, I was like I don’t feel fulfilled. Like this isn’t me.’
Xavier explained that the lack of fulfillment came from knowing that all the gilded trappings of his amazing life were due to his father and that he had not earned them himself.

But as the teen nears his 18th birthday, he said he wanted to ‘create an identity for myself.’
‘I want to be Xav, I don’t want to be Justin Trudeau’s son,’ he told Hobs. ‘I don’t want to be doing all these cool things because of my dad, I want to do it because of me.’
In his debut song, titled Til The Nights Done, he even addressed this a little as he sings: ‘What you know about me / I ain’t like him.’
In his most recent single, he appeared to discuss his strange lifestyle and the discretion used around high-profile people and families.
He sings: ‘I’m not just anybody, where I’m from / Keep it discreet, I keep it (Shh) / They won’t even let me go out alone.’
Xavier released the songs under his own label, Pathway Music Group, and the label’s co-founder Joey Boyer said the teen has a new take on R&B music.
‘His “vibe” is dark ambient R&B with a hint of ballads,’ Boyer told The National Post. ‘Everything you will hear from Xav is 100 percent original and made specifically to curate to Xav’s ideas.’
His father, Justin, announced his resignation on January 6 after nearly a decade in power, bowing to rising discontent over his leadership and growing turmoil within his government.

Although the nepo baby did admit he realized the life he lived while his dad served in the top position from 2015 to 2025 wasn’t built by him and it came from his father’s success. So, he now wants to forge his own identity (pictured: Trudeau family in September 2021)
Justin came to power in 2015 after 10 years of Conservative Party rule and was initially hailed for returning the country to its liberal past.
But the 53-year-old scion of one of Canada’s most famous prime ministers became deeply unpopular with voters in recent years over a range of issues, including the soaring cost of food and housing, and surging immigration.
Xavier is the son of Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and Justin, who also share Ella-Grace Margaret and Hadrien Trudeau.
Sophie and Justin separated after 18 years of marriage in August 2023.
Xavier comes from a long line of politicians as his grandfather Pierre Trudeau was also a prime minister for the North American country from 1968 to 1979.
