APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the brink of collapse and will cease to exist before the end of 2025.
Ganduje made the remarks in response to recent comments by former Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido, who predicted the disintegration of the APC and claimed that former PDP members, including Ganduje, would eventually return to the opposition party.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s comments as baseless and irrational, stating that he has no intention of leaving the ruling party for what he called a “dying opposition.”
“In fact, very soon we will welcome Sule Lamido into the APC because he will have nowhere else to go. The PDP is de@d,” Ganduje said.
He added that internal crises within the PDP would lead to its total collapse before the year ends. According to him, the APC is gaining momentum under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, with major political figures defecting to the party across the country.
Ganduje also reiterated his commitment to leading the APC as the largest political party in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing efforts to deepen internal democracy and strengthen governance.
He urged Lamido to address the PDP’s internal issues rather than make what he described as unfounded statements.
Speaking on Friday, Ganduje also suggested that a one-party system might not be a bad thing for Nigeria. When asked about the implications of mass defections to the APC, he referenced China as an example of a successful one-party state.
“China is one of the strongest countries in the world, and it’s a one-party system,” he said. “We’re not pushing for that, but if Nigerians choose it, we can’t oppose their wish.”
