The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has smashed a notorious burglary syndicate and arrested seven suspects. 

 

 

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, May 22, 2025 said a stolen generator, pieces of iron rods, and solar batteries were recovered from the suspects. 

 

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspected key member of a notorious burglary and stealing syndicate, leading to further arrests and the recovery of stolen items,” the statement read. 

 

“On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 0800 hours, acting on credible information, police arrested Asuquo Archibong Effiong, a male originally from Esuk Mba Village in Bakassi LGA, Cross River State, but residing in Ibiaku Ishiet Village, Uruan LGA.

 

“During interrogation, Effiong confessed to his involvement in burgling houses in Ifa Atai Village, Uyo LGA, and its environs, along with his gang members, identified only as Umoh (male) and Twancy (male). 

 

“He also admitted to being a member of the Mafia secret cult group and provided names of his fellow cult members.”

 

 

Further investigations led to the arrest of six suspected receivers of stolen goods:  Augustine Ita Essien, ⁠Sadam Musa, ⁠Usman Haruna, Umar Abubakar, ⁠Murtiala Muhammed and Emmanuel Sunday, all males residing in Ring Road III, Uyo.

 

“An immediate search of their residences and premises resulted in the recovery of a generator, several pieces of iron rods, eight solar batteries, ⁠quantities of nails and ⁠binding wires.

 

“The police are continuing their investigation to apprehend other suspects. Further developments will be communicated to the public.

 

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to its mandate of protecting lives and property.”
