Troops of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Operation Safe Haven have arrested a suspected militia member and recovered arms and ammunition during a clearance operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Army authorities confirmed that the operation was conducted in the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025 following credible intelligence on the suspect’s whereabouts in Hura village.
The troops subsequently carried out a follow-up raid on the suspect’s hideout, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, a cash sum of N2,500, and items suspected to be charms.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of a criminal syndicate linked to the k!lling of a herder and the rustling of 1,250 cows in Tomborong village, Riyom LGA, on May 27.
“The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators on the identities and locations of other members of the syndicate and their cache of weapons,” a military source said.
Troops have intensified efforts to track and apprehend the remaining members of the group responsible for the criminal activities in the area.
