US President, Donald Trump says he has no interest in speaking with Elon Musk amid their increasingly bitter public feud — just hours after reports suggested a call between the two was being arranged.

“You mean the man who has lost his mind?” Trump told ABC News when asked about plans for a possible conversation with the billionaire.

When pressed further, Trump said he was “not particularly” interested in speaking with Musk, even though Musk was reportedly eager to talk.

Earlier in the day, a White House official claimed that a phone call between Trump and Musk was expected later Friday. However, a second official later denied any such call was on the agenda.

The mixed signals came as Trump sought to downplay his deteriorating relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, once considered a close ally.

“Oh, it’s OK,” Trump said. “It’s going very well, never done better.” He added, “The numbers are through the roof, the highest polls I’ve ever had — and I have to go,” shifting focus to his own approval ratings.

The latest fallout began after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s sweeping legislative proposal known as the “Big Beautiful Bill,” prompting Trump to fire back from the Oval Office. Musk, in turn, raised the stakes, calling for Trump’s impeachment and accusing the administration of suppressing Epstein-related documents that allegedly implicate the former president.

“Time to drop the really big bomb: Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk posted on X.

As tensions escalated, Trump threatened to pull billions of dollars in federal funding from Musk’s companies. Meanwhile, Tesla shares tumbled amid the public spat, with some analysts citing Musk’s political clashes as a factor.

Despite the sharp barbs, signs of de-escalation emerged late Thursday when hedge fund manager Bill Ackman urged both men to reconcile, saying the world would benefit from their unity. Musk responded simply: “You’re not wrong.”
