Ben Foster has named the player who’s part of a side relegated from the Premier League this season who would improve Chelsea.
Transfer speculation has mentioned Chelsea alongside a few different relegated players as potential targets ahead of the summer window.
For example, the Blues have been linked with the likes of Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap.
Chelsea are favourites to sign Liam Delap after the striker’s strong individual campaign for relegated Ipswich, scoring 12 Premier League goals to date. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been impressed by Leicester’s Mads Hermnasen, even though the goalkeeper now has a relegation on his CV.
Interestingly, it’s a different relegated profile that former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster believes would be a good signing for Chelsea.
Ben Foster claims Aaron Ramsdale would be an upgrade for Chelsea
During a conversation on his YouTube channel, Foster suggested that Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale would be a decent signing for Chelsea.
When asked if he would take Ramsdale if he were Chelsea, Foster said: “Yes, I would. He would be an upgrade… Rambo needs to find a team that are going to be a solid, settled Premier League team, and you’ll get another 10 years out of Aaron Ramsdale at the top level.”
Southampton signed Ramsdale from Arsenal in a deal worth an initial £18m (Sky Sports) last summer. Unfortunately, the English goalkeeper has now been relegated from the Premier League yet again in his career as the Saints have been extremely poor.
Ramsdale, who’s done his best in the Saints goal, certainly hasn’t had much help from the defence in front of him.
Here is a look at the shot-stopper individual statistics in the league this term:
Games | Goals conceded | Clean sheets | Save percentage | Pass accuracy | Error led to goal | Penalties saved | Average match rating |
26 | 60 | 2 | 64.9% | 60.8% | 0 | 2 | 6.61 |
While Ramsdale, 26, certainly has plenty certainly has a lot of top-quality experience, we’re not sure about him as the solution to the goalkeeper problem at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s summer plan includes a full review of their goalkeepers. This includes looking at Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen plus loanees Mike Penders and Djordje Petrovic.
Chelsea links to Aaron Ramsdale
In fairness, Ramsdale’s name has cropped up alongside the Blues in some recent transfer rumours.
It was reported in March that Aaron Ramsdale has had an offer from Chelsea to possibly join them.
BBC pundit Michael Brown thinks Aaron Ramsdale would be good for Chelsea, but we’re not sure his signing would go down too well with the club’s supporters.
The fanbase has been spoilt to watch legendary goalkeepers such as Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois guard their net in the 21st century, so they’re desperate for the highest standards in between the sticks.
