Chelsea are one of the clubs being linked with a summer move to sign a player who’s just won a sixth league title of his career.
While the focus at Chelsea is on a strong end to the season to both qualify for the Champions League and win the Conference League, the summer transfer window is quickly approaching as well.
It’s been claimed that Chelsea could sell up to eight players at the end of the season to trim down their squad. In fairness, the Blues do have a lot of individuals on the books that may struggle to carve out a future at Stamford Bridge.
In terms of potential incomings, reports state that Chelsea could ‘go big’ on three signings to improve the team.
Chelsea have conversation with Leroy Sane’s agent
The future of Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane, 29, is a hot topic for discussion right now because his contract expires at the end of the season
He may have just helped the German giants clinch the Bundesliga crown, which is the sixth league title of his career, but he’ll soon be available on a free transfer.
According to SPORT1, Sane hasn’t made up his mind regarding his future despite a final contract offer from Bayern. Apparently, club officials are frustrated that the Germany international still hasn’t decided his next step.
The report explains that Sane’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has already held initial discussions with Chelsea and Arsenal about a potential summer move.
The career of Sane so far speaks for itself because it’s been littered with success, including two Premier League titles with Manchester City and now four Bundesliga titles at Bayern.
Team | Appearnaces | Goals | Assists | Trophies |
Bayern Munich | 218 | 61 | 54 | 8 |
Manchester City | 135 | 39 | 44 | 5 |
Schalke | 57 | 13 | 8 | 0 |
Germany | 69 | 14 | 8 | 0 |
Earlier in the season, Chelsea were named as suitors for Leroy Sane as a return to the Premier League was mooted.
It’ll be interesting to see if the left-footed flying winger is soon back in English football following talks with two of the nation’s biggest clubs.
Would Leroy Sane be a good signing?
In terms of profile, Sane would tick a lot of boxes for Chelsea, especially if he’s available on a free transfer.
The German winger would inject the type of experience and know-how that is desperately missing from a young Blues dressing room. On top of that, he’s still a quality player in attack, scoring 13 goals and creating five assists in 43 Bayern appearances this season across all competitions.
Bayern and England striker Harry Kane described club teammate Sane as “dangerous” when he goes forward, as quoted by Kicker in April.
The biggest thing for Chelsea to weigh up is they quite clearly need to prioritise other areas of the pitch, including striker and goalkeeper, before they look at adding more wide players.
