Chelsea could be about to add an absolutely rapid forward to their team for the 2025/26 season.

The Blues are hoping to bring a new striker to Stamford Bridge this summer, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap thought to be their main target.

Chelsea are keen on Delap, but the 22-year-old is not the only centre-forward on the club’s radar.

Despite Ipswich’s struggles in the Premier League this season, Delap has still been able to score 12 goals in 34 outings. It would now not be a surprise to see co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley go all out to sign him if they are not already, but again, Chelsea do have other options.

Chelsea hold contract talks with Emanuel Emegha

One of those alternatives is Emanuel Emegha, and with the 22-year-old playing for Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, a deal could be easy.

Of course, the Strasbourg to Chelsea route could be closed and vice versa if both outfits qualify for the same European competition next season.

Whatever the case, it looks like Chelsea are working on a potential deal to sign Emegha at this very moment.

According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea and Emegha have already held discussions about a long-term contract.

Last month, it had already been claimed that Chelsea were seriously considering signing Emegha as they look to bring in a new No.9 to support Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson has had to endure an injury and goal drought this season so could do with another striker coming in to help share the burden with him.

Emanuel Emegha faster than any Premier League player

In Emegha, Chelsea would be getting an absolute speedster. In Foot Mercato’s report, it is also mentioned that the Dutchman is the fastest player in Ligue 1 with a top speed of 37.7 km/h.

In the Premier League this season, Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven has recorded a top speed of 37.1 — just short of Emegha’s record — making him the quickest footballer in English football’s top division.

Rank Player Top speed (km/h)
1. Micky van de Ven 37.1
2. Matheus Nunes 36.7
3. Bryan Mbeumo 36.6
4. Yankuba Minteh 36.4
5. Anthony Elanga 36.2

The most important thing, though, is putting the ball into the back of the net, and Emegha has done that 14 times this term, which is not bad.
