Chelsea’s fate when it comes to this season will be decided by just 90 minutes of football when they make the trip to face Nottingham Forest.

Enzo Maresca will be aware that a win will guarantee them a return to Champions League football, and show signs of serious progress in the ambitious project being undertaken.

The biggest decision when it comes to team selection comes in the striker position. Nicolas Jackson remains unavailable due to suspension.

The boss started Tyrique George up front against Manchester United, however he did not have his best game. There will be hope that Christopher Nkunku or Marc Guiu are fit enough to start.

When the transfer window opens, it has been reported that Chelsea will prioritise bringing in a new number nine to hopefully be a more regular source of goals.

Chelsea to try sign Benjamin Sesko if they qualify for the Champions League

One of the names who has been mentioned as a target is Benjamin Sesko. Chelsea were tipped to make an approach for Sesko instead of Victor Osimhen, another player who has been on the shortlist for some time.

Sunday’s result may play a part in the magnitude of player they are able to attract. According to The Guardian, the Blues are likely to make a move for Sesko if they can offer him Champions League football for next season.

Manchester United are one of Chelsea’s big rivals for these big-name signings, however their defeat in the Europa League final could impact their efforts.

Potential swap opportunity for Benjamin Sesko

If the Blues want to get the potential price of the striker down, they could look to complete a deal that involves one of their own players going the other way.

RB Leipzig are fans of Nkunku after his previous spell with the club. The Frenchman seems to have no future in West London.

It would certainly work in Chelsea’s favour to make the signing at a lower fee, whilst also getting rid of a player who it seems does not want to be at Stamford Bridge any longer.

As well as Sesko, the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap remain high on their list, however they will have a far easier job of convincing them if they win on Sunday and secure Champions League football for next season.
