Chelsea are one of the clubs showing interest in signing a £100m-rated player this summer.
The Blues have a history of investing heavily in the transfer market, with their BlueCo ownership continuing the trend of Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge.
In a list of Chelsea’s most expensive signings of all time, current stars Moises Caicedo (£115m) and Enzo Fernandez (£106.8m) sit at the top of the pile.
Moises Caicedo won Chelsea’s Player of the Season this year for a stellar campaign as he begins to really live up to the price tag.
Chelsea keen on Brighton star Joao Pedro
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are joined by Liverpool and Arsenal in showing interest in signing Brighton’s Joao Pedro.
It is explained that the three Premier League sides admire the 23-year-old Brazilian attacker.
The report explains that in particular Chelsea and Arsenal are long-term admirers of Pedro, who joined Brighton for £30m in the summer of 2023.
TalkSPORT claimed in April that Brighton have put a £100m price tag on Pedro to fend off suitors.
The Seagulls centre-forward, who can also play as a No 10 or in wide positions, is close to finishing a strong second year at the Amex Stadium.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 30 | 10 | 7 |
2023/24 | 40 | 20 | 3 |
Speaking earlier in the season in November, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler claimed Pedro has a “special quality” on the football pitch (Sussex World). It’s why there should be no real surprise that he’s on the radar of the biggest clubs in England.
Joao Pedro has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while
Chelsea have been impressed by Joao Pedro since 2023 when he joined Brighton from Watford.
Mauricio Pochettino was the Blues manager when the Brighton star was on the radar of Stamford Bridge officials. Well, rumours suggest they’ve reignited their interest; this time Enzo Maresca is sat in the manager’s dugout.
It’s no secret that Chelsea head coach Maresca likes individuals with great versatility, so Pedro ticks a huge box in that aspect.
However, if the club were to consider splashing another massive transfer fee, we’d prefer someone who’s the finished article compared to the Brighton star who’s still developing.
