Chelsea could be about to sign both Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens from Ipswich Town and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
Delap has agreed personal terms ahead of his imminent move to west London, while the Blues are speaking to Dortmund about a deal for Gittens.
It has been reported that Chelsea are discussing signing Gittens in a potential £50m transfer as they look to bring in a new wide man.
Signing both players would see them reunite after spending some time together in Manchester City’s academy.
Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens inspired Manchester City U18s to 5-2 win against Liverpool
Delap and Gittens did not have many opportunities to play alongside each other when they were at City.
As per Transfermarkt, they only actually ever shared the pitch once. But the two attackers were absolutely deadly that day and combined well as they put Liverpool’s U18s to the sword.
City won 5-2, with Delap grabbing a brace. Gittens also managed to get his name on the scoresheet, and it was Delap who assisted him.
It is perhaps a preview of what is to come at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea signing the two England U21 internationals looks very possible.
As things stand, Delap is set to compete with Nicolas Jackson for a spot in Enzo Maresca‘s team. However, there is a possibility of Chelsea buying another striker on top of Delap, while Jackson departs.
Chelsea are being linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, which has seemingly unsettled Jackson alongside the club’s pursuit of Delap.
Liam Delap told he’s made a mistake choosing to join Chelsea
Not everyone is behind the idea of Delap leaving Ipswich for Chelsea. For Troy Deeney, Delap would have been better off joining Manchester United.
United were also keen on the 22-year-old, but he has opted to link up with their Premier League rivals instead.
When Deeney discussed Delap’s impending move to Chelsea, he said: “I think personally, when I just look at his development, I thought Man U was a perfect fit.”
If Chelsea go on to land Gittens, it will be interesting to hear what pundits then have to say about that move.
