Of all the positions in the starting XI that could be strengthened in the upcoming transfer window, the striker role is the one that seems most likely at this stage.

The Blues decided to stick with Nicolas Jackson as the main option for this season, after failing to sign Victor Osimhen last summer before he moved to Turkey.

The Senegal international has hardly found the net in 2025, and is unavailable for the crucial last game of the season against Nottingham Forest due to his recent red card.

It has been typical of the club since the new owners came in to prioritise signing younger players who have the potential to be the best in the world in the future.

One name which certainly fits that criteria is Benjamin Sesko, who is on the radar of a number of top clubs ahead of the transfer window opening again at the end of the season.

Chelsea tipped to sign Benjamin Sesko this summer

While other sides are keen, the Blues have already done a lot of groundwork over the past few years on the potential signing. It is believed Chelsea are ahead of Tottenham in the race for Sesko.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that he believes Sesko is the kind of striker they are going to look to sign as opposed to a more established star like Osimhen.

He said: “I think Sesko is a fascinating one from what I’m hearing. They’ve always been in the Sesko hunt. They do like him a lot. And I think there’s been a few conversations about him in recent weeks.

“So I do wonder I get the gut feeling Chelsea are going to go for a younger version like a Sesko or Delap. That’s the inclination I’m getting rather than a guy like Osimhen or whoever it may be. So I think if they do go down that route I think that might open up the Emegha option as number three, so you’ve got the competition there for Jackson as well.

“I think they’re more inclined to go down that route personally, and they may prove me wrong and do that, but I think the way they’ve gone about the business and in terms of their finances and building for the future, I think it would point towards a Delap or Sesko as things stand.”

Sesko has contributed to more goals in the 2024/25 season than he did in the Bundesliga last season, adding a few more assists to his game.

It has been reported that the striker is not the only player Chelsea are keen on signing from RB Leipzig, with them linked to a number of other individuals too.

The potential of a swap deal has cropped up, with Leipzig interested in signing Christopher Nkunku after it has become clear his future is not bright at Stamford Bridge.
