Chelsea have strengthened up front this summer by signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and will not stop there.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens is a key target for Chelsea and the Blues are working on a deal to bring the 20-year-old to west London as they look to bolster their wide options.
Before the Blues jet off to the Club World Cup, they could also sign a new goalkeeper amid links with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.
It is not good news for Robert Sanchez, who is starting to lose Enzo Maresca‘s backing.
Enzo Maresca has lost trust in Robert Sanchez
Sanchez was a key player for Maresca last season after making 32 appearances in the Premier League, but that could be about to change.
According to Calciomercato, Maresca “no longer trusts” Sanchez and wants to sign an upgrade on the 27-year-old this summer.
That upgrade could be Maignan, who appears to be Chelsea‘s No.1 target for the goalkeeper position.
It was recently claimed that Chelsea made an offer for Maignan that would have seen Kepa Arrizabalaga or Djordje Petrovic head in the opposite direction. However, the Conference League winners have seemingly failed with that proposal.
Kepa is set to join Arsenal instead, but it remains to be seen what Chelsea and Maresca do with Petrovic following his excellent loan spell at Strasbourg.
Time running out for Mike Maignan to join Chelsea
Chelsea want Maignan and Maignan also wants Chelsea. Earlier in the week, it was reported that Maignan would be happy to move to Stamford Bridge.
It does not look like the Blues are going to wait around forever, though. It is thought that Chelsea are keen to close a deal for Maignan by next Tuesday at the latest.
If that does not happen, then it is likely that they continue with their current options. That is what Sanchez will be hoping for, while Maignan staying at Milan would also be a positive development for Filip Jorgensen, who will be desperate to be Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper himself.
