Benoit Badiashile is not a starter at Chelsea right now, with Enzo Maresca preferring Levi Colwill in the left centre-back position.
The 24-year-old has played on the right side before, but Maresca also has other options there, such as Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.
To make matters worse for Badiashile, Chelsea look set to sign another central defender this summer.
It is thought that Chelsea are winning the battle for Dean Huijsen as things stand. Huijsen has been a key player for Bournemouth this season, but with a £50m release clause in his contract, they could have no choice but to let him go in the next transfer window.
Benoit Badiashile still happy at Chelsea
Badiashile’s football career has not always been easy, with the Frenchman once again finding himself in a difficult predicament.
This season, he has only made five appearances in the Premier League, though that is partly down to injury.
Nevertheless, despite his lack of game time and Chelsea’s interest in Huijsen, Badiashile still appears to be content with life in west London.
According to football.london, Badiashile is actually happy at Chelsea, though you suspect the arrival of a new centre-half could easily change that.
Huijsen is not the only centre-back who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, so it looks like the Blues will definitely be strengthening in that area this summer.
Journalist Simon Phillips recently claimed that Chelsea also have Jonathan Tah on their radar. Tah has announced that he will be leaving Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer at the end of the season, so he could be a great opportunity for Maresca.
Dean Huijsen’s preferred club
While Chelsea are likely to sign a new central defender to join Badiashile and the others at the Bridge, there is no guarantee that they will land Huijsen.
It is thought that Huijsen’s preference is actually Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants may not be able to afford him this year.
If that changes, then Chelsea may have to look elsewhere in their bid to strengthen their backline.
