Chelsea have created a needless distraction ahead of the start of their Club World Cup campaign, which begins on Monday.

A lot is being said about Kendry Paez right now following the Blues’ initial decision to leave the attacking midfielder out of their squad for the tournament.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Paez was left feeling disappointed after Chelsea decided that they would not be taking him to America with them.

However, since then, it has emerged that the club have changed their mind and now plan to have Paez train with the squad in the US.

Chelsea decide to take Kendry Paez to America after agent intervention

Paez’s agent getting involved in the situation is said to be the reason behind Chelsea‘s sudden change of heart.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Paez’s agent “took some steps” that made things get “very heated and tense” at one point and ultimately resulted in the club making a huge U-turn.

As things stand, though, Paez will still not be able to play at the Club World Cup after not being registered for the competition.

Several other Chelsea players, however, are set to make their debuts. Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr have all travelled to the US and could feature for their new side.

Theo Walcott recently discussed Delap, sharing his disappointment over Arsenal’s decision not to go after the young striker before his move to Stamford Bridge.

How Chelsea fans reacted to Kendry Paez U-turn

Paez and his agent are not happy with how things have been handled, and neither are Chelsea supporters.

Plenty of Chelsea fans have been discussing Paez’s situation on social media, slamming the club for the mess they have created.

They will be hoping that the Ecuadorian is registered for the latter stage of the tournament, with another registration window set to open then. Until then, Paez will have to be satisfied with training with the Chelsea first-team.
