Chelsea are poised to announce their first big signing of what is set to be a busy summer transfer window divided by the Club World Cup.
The Blues are set to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town after his relegation release clause became active following the end of the Premier League season.
Chelsea have held a long-term interest in signing the striker after he has enjoyed an excellent first few years as a senior player, and now supporters can anticipate him featuring at Stamford Bridge.
Delap has a great record alongside Cole Palmer from their time together at Manchester City, and the first opportunity to see them together could be at the Club World Cup later this month.
Liam Delap’s Chelsea contract length revealed
The club have made their plan no secret since the new owners came in, with them offering long-term deals to their new signings.
It looks as if the same is the case with Delap. According to The Athletic, the striker is set to put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until 2031.
The report goes on to state that the two parties now have a full agreement on personal terms, and it is only a matter of time before the signing is announced.
Only three Chelsea players currently have deals that are set to expire after this date. According to Capology, only Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson are on the books for a longer period of time.
Chelsea’s transfer plans after Liam Delap
Despite securing a striker early in the window, it seems the Blues are not yet satisfied with their attacking options ahead of a season with Champions League football to come.
It has been reported they are still keen on Hugo Ekitike, however face competition from Liverpool in their efforts to sign him.
It remains to be seen what this means for the future of their current strikers. It has been claimed that Jackson is not too happy at Chelsea, and there is currently no certainty over where he will play his football next season.
With a winger and centre-back still on their radar, Chelsea fans can be excited for a big summer, which will be started by the signing of Delap in the coming days.
