Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has been speaking about Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo, who will both be midfield options for Enzo Maresca next season.
Chelsea supporters will already get a chance to see a glimpse of them this month, with both players being included in their Club World Cup squad.
Enzo Fernandez was Caicedo‘s partner in midfield last season, and the pair were great in the middle of the park for Chelsea. Both Fernandez and Caicedo have improved under Maresca, according to the Chelsea manager himself.
Caicedo could now be about to strike up another great relationship on the pitch, but this time with Santos.
Moises Caicedo already close to Andrey Santos
Santos actually arrived at Stamford Bridge before Caicedo, joining Chelsea back in 2023. However, after multiple loan spells, the two have spent little time with each other.
However, Caicedo has revealed that they are already close, suggesting that the Blues could soon have another exciting midfield pairing at their disposal.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Caicedo said: “I always try to help the new players in the squad. Mamadou [Sarr] has the French players, of course. Andrey is close to me and I can help him, Dario also as he speaks Spanish.
“I try to help them in any way I can, but I also try to show them. I want to show them every day on the pitch what I do, how I train, how I am as a professional.”
Essugo is another individual who could partner Caicedo in midfield or cover the Ecuadorian next season. Maresca has a “good feeling” about Essugo after watching the 20-year-old in training.
Moises Caicedo assesses his season
There is a lot that Santos will be able to learn from Caicedo, with the Ecuadorian being one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Caicedo was terrific last season and is satisfied with his performances during that campaign.
In the same interview shared by Chelsea’s website, the 23-year-old said: “I am very happy with what I have been doing in this team during the season, how I have helped the team, and now I’m going to keep trying to reach another level. That is my mentality.”
Again, Caicedo and Fernandez have proven to be a great midfield partnership. The pair are close off the pitch, and it looks like Caicedo already has a similar relationship with Santos.
Chelsea fans loved what they saw from the duo last term and will be hoping that Caicedo and Santos can also combine well when called upon. Based on the former’s words, it could happen.
