Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje has come to the defense of compatriot Wilfred Ndidi following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League.

Speaking in an interview with Brila.net, Sodje emphasized that the midfielder’s individual quality should not be judged based on the club’s dismal season.

“Let’s not use Leicester’s season to judge,” Sodje stated. “Ndidi has proven that he is a good Premiership player.

“If he begins a new chapter in a good club, his form will improve. £9 million for an established player is cheap. Clubs will definitely pay for him if Leicester wants to sell for that price.”

Ndidi, 28, is now available for a modest £9 million due to a relegation release clause in his contract, triggered after Leicester’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool two weeks ago, which confirmed their drop to the Championship with five games still left to play.

The Foxes have managed just 21 points from 35 games this season and recently set a Premier League record with nine consecutive home losses without scoring a single goal.

Sodje also attributed Ndidi’s recent form to injury setbacks and remains confident in the midfielder’s ability to bounce back.

“He still has a lot to offer. I think the injury he had before affected him. Once he can undergo preseason to recover, I think he will start performing well again.”

A backbone of Leicester City’s midfield since 2017, Wilfred Ndidi now stands at a career crossroads, with several clubs reportedly keeping close tabs on his situation.

Despite the Foxes’ downturn, the Nigerian international’s reputation as a tireless and reliable ball winner remains firmly intact.

With the transfer window approaching, Ndidi could be on the move this summer, potentially reigniting his career at a new Premier League side or abroad.
