Football Coaches in Nigeria need to upgrade their knowledge of the game, according to Wikki Tourist head coach Usman Abdallah.

Abdallah has advocated for the coach to take on more specialized courses to raise the competitiveness of their teams and quality of football in the country.

Speaking to brila.net in a post-mortem of the league season, the former League winner insists there’s been marginal improvement, but believes more could be done.

‘We are seeing more local coaches take up national team jobs, and this is encouraging,’ Abdallah admitted. ‘But, we need to understand that there are specifics now that can be added advantage.’

‘There are coaches who have the UEFA Pro license; it is good, but to specialize further in areas like advanced attacking transition and so on will do us even more good.

‘So it is at this point you’ll need bodies like the NFF and CAF to invest more in coaching education to boost the game in Nigeria and bring some uniformity to the growth across Africa.’
