Reece James and Liam Delap will be teammates next season after Chelsea’s acquisition of the striker.

Chelsea wanted to buy a new centre-forward and have now acquired one after signing Delap from Ipswich Town.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer recently discussed Delap, describing the 22-year-old as “very good business”.

James has also been speaking about Delap, sharing his assessment of the Englishman’s 2024/25 season.

Reece James impressed with Liam Delap’s 2024/25 campaign

In 37 Premier League appearances for Ipswich, Delap scored 12 goals. It was not enough to keep Kieran McKenna’s side up, but James was still impressed with his new teammate’s campaign.

“He’s had a great season at Ipswich and I’m very happy he’s going to be joining us for next season,” the Chelsea captain was quoted as saying by Hayters TV. “He’s a great player and I’m delighted he’s with us.”

James is not the only Chelsea star who has been talking about Delap following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer has also spoken about Delap joining the Blues, stating that he cannot wait to play alongside him.

This will not be the first time that Palmer and Delap have linked up. The two attackers have already been teammates at Manchester City and represented England U21s together.

Chelsea fans will not have to wait too long to see Palmer and Delap re-establish their partnership. It has been confirmed that Delap will be heading to the Club World Cup with the rest of the Chelsea team, meaning that the former Ipswich man could make his debut for Enzo Maresca‘s side later this month.

Liam Delap promises to ‘fight defenders’

In Delap, Chelsea look to have acquired a strong, physical centre-forward who is ready to go toe-to-toe with any centre-half in England.

In his first interview since joining Chelsea, Delap said: “I’m super hungry. I love to battle. I work hard. I’ll fight defenders, and I obviously love to score and put the ball in the back of the net.”

Hearing those words will remind Chelsea supporters of Diego Costa, who never shied away from any confrontation during his time in west London.

Delap is now promising to battle defenders in a very similar way, which could be a very good watch next season if you are a Chelsea fan.
