There are a few new faces in Chelsea’s squad, with Liam Delap earning rave reviews right now following his arrival from Ipswich Town.
Delap made his Chelsea debut on Monday night, coming on in the second half of the Blues’ Club World Cup fixture against Los Angeles FC.
Delap set up Enzo Fernandez’s goal, hence why the striker is getting a lot of praise at the minute.
Mamadou Sarr is another new signing at Chelsea but did not play on Monday. However, there also seems to be a very positive feeling about him.
People inside Chelsea are raving about Mamadou Sarr
Chelsea play again on Friday, taking on Flamengo in their next Club World Cup game, so Sarr may not have to wait too long to make his debut.
Some at the club may feel that he deserves a chance, with the central defender seemingly making a good early impression.
According to journalist Rahman Osman, figures at Chelsea have been raving about Sarr, who faces a lot of competition to get into the team.
But if the 19-year-old continues to impress behind the scenes, then Enzo Maresca may give him a genuine first-team opportunity.
If Sarr gets that and manages to take it, then Chelsea could end up saving millions. Chelsea want Jarrad Branthwaite, for example, who is expected to cost a lot of money.
Liam Rosenior has tipped Mamadou Sarr to become world-class
Sarr also has admirers elsewhere, including at former club Strasbourg. There, the Frenchman worked with Liam Rosenior, who has plenty of good things to say about him.
In fact, Rosenior believes Sarr has the potential to become a world-class defender one day.
When Rosenior spoke about Sarr earlier this year, he said: “His temperament, his athleticism, his ability on the ball… he’s got everything you need to be a world-class centre-half.”
With Sarr still being just 19 and Chelsea already having several centre-back options, he may need a loan or two to develop and fulfil his potential. So far, though, things are looking good based on the noises coming out of Chelsea.
