Chelsea will be well aware that they are going to need to sell in order to spend during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Blues have not been hesitant to move players on in the time that Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been in charge of the club.
This has included selling players who have spent the majority of their professional career at Stamford Bridge. Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher were shifted in successive summers to Manchester United and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Player trading is something Boehly and Eghbali disagree on, and has been one of the points brought up during the ongoing rift between the owners.
Youngsters coming through the academy have not been safe either, with many seeing their time on loan away from the club eventually ending with them being moved on.
Chelsea player set to leave the club after five years at Stamford Bridge
Leo Castledine has spent this season on loan at Shrewsbury, however the reliance the EFL side had on him has caused problems.
Castledine returned to Stamford Bridge after suffering an overuse injury, with him not featuring since January.
Despite there still being a year left on his contract at the club, it looks as if the youngster has made the decision to move on from the Blues. According to The Athletic, Castledine has decided he wants to leave this summer.
The midfielder has been with the club since joining from Wimbledon in 2020, and made his debut for the first team under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
Chelsea losing out on talented youngster
Plenty of people who have knowledge of the youngster’s game have been full of praise for his abilities during his time coming through the ranks at Cobham.
John Terry is a known fan of Castledine, and believed Blues fans had plenty to be excited about with his future.
Former U21 coach Mark Robinson described him as ‘strong’ to The Athletic, however it seems he is now ready for regular minutes that will set up a future at first team level.
Given the quality that continues to come through the Chelsea academy, there will be a number of other players continuing to question if they have a future at the club.
