Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade says the team is locked in ahead of the friendly against Cameroon and have their sights on a successful tournament at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Midfielder was among the early arrivals at the Super Falcons’ training camp in Ijebu-Ode.
The games are a crucial phase in the team’s final build-up to the 13th edition of WAFCON, which kicks off on July 5.
Ajibade said that the current camp is more than just about the friendly matches—it’s a foundation for building a strong squad that will challenge for a record-extending 10th African title.
“That was a tournament, and right now it’s a training camp. It’s just a friendly game, so it’s basically for us to build a team, and just to know what we have as a squad, as a team.”
“The most important thing is we want to build a team, we want to make sure that we’re preparing ahead of a tournament.”
“It’s a Privilege, It’s an Honour”
With 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup heroics still fresh in memory, Ajibade reiterated that wearing the green and white remains a source of pride for her and the team.
“Every tournament that we go to, to represent the nation, it’s a privilege, it’s an honour, and the aim is always to give it our best.”
“The aim is always to win the trophy, to win.”
The 24-year-old will lead a squad featuring the likes of Michelle Alozie, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, as the Super Falcons seek to reclaim their African crown after finishing fourth in 2022.
The Nigeria-Cameroon friendlies take place on May 31 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne and June 3 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, and are expected to serve as a tactical and psychological boost ahead of their continental mission in Morocco.
